The Noel Coward Theatre opened as the New Theatre in 1903, one of over 30 theatres designed by the famous theatre architect, William Sprague. It was renamed as the Albery theatre in 1973 in honour of the Albery family who presided as managers and producers from 1903 to 1987.
In 2005 the theatre was acquired by Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, who extensively refurbished the theatre and renamed it the Noël Coward Theatre in honour of the great playwright, composer and actor who made his West End debut there in 1920. The reopening production was the Award winning Broadway musical, Avenue Q.
The Noel Coward Theatre is in St. Martin’s Lane, a short walk from Leicester Square tube station served by both the Piccadilly and Northern lines. It is located back-to-back with the Wyndhams theatre which is adjacent to Leicester Square tube station.
There are an abundance of restaurants and pubs in both St. Martin’s Lane and also nearby Soho or Covent Garden. Trafalgar Square is located at the end of St. Martin’s Lane and is a short walk. Charing Cross mainline station, served also by the Jubilee, Northern and Bakerloo lines, is but a short walk away.
