Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf
Edward Albee’s highly acclaimed 1962 play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is showing at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited 13-week run. The cast is led by the three-time Olivier Award winning actress Imelda Staunton, who stars alongside Game of Thrones star Conleth Hill.
The play is set at an American college campus. Imelda Staunton stars as Martha, whose husband George, played by Hill, is more than dissatisfied when his wife invites the young Nick and Honey home for after-party drinks following a faculty party. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, some devastating truths are revealed in what is a powerful exploration of the breakdown of marriage.
This new production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is directed by James Macdonald. The announcement that Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is to show on the West End follows the sad news that the revered playwright Edward Albee recently passed away. Albee died at the age of 88 following a short illness.
