The Snow Queen

Drawing upon the same plot as Disney’s smash hit Frozen, The Snow Queen play is a brilliant rendition of Hans Christian Anderson’s original winter tale. The story focuses on the origin and journey of the queen, who possesses the power to bring endless winter. Those hoping to see this production live on stage have a very limited window to do so, as its Park Theatre run ends in just a month. So, don’t delay, and book your tickets today!

Unique and riveting plot

Most of the play’s story remains faithful to its source material. However, the adaptation by playwright Charles Way alters one minor detail. Gerda, the protagonist of the play, must embark on an epic quest to reach the snow queen and save her best friend. While in the original the best friend’s name was Kai, the stage adaptation renames the boy as Cei.

The Snow Queen play sees Gerda battle many obstacles as she inches closer to her goal. The intense never-ending winter, snow and other elements try to stop her from rescuing her best friend. To pull off this enormous task, she must seek help from bickering flowers, a talking reindeer named Bae and the confusion of princes and princesses. Audience members can also witness the nasty Mr Oversko – Gerda and Cei’s teacher. During her journey, Gerda must engage in snow fights, battle the changing seasons and perhaps, by the time they reach their journey’s end, she and Cei may be ready to grow up.

The creative team behind the Snow Queen play

Hans Christian Andersen wrote this famous fairy tale in 1844. In 2008, the stage adaptation by Charles Way premiered on the Sherman Theatre stage in Cardiff. Today, Abigail Anderson is in charge of directing the stage production. She received her training at Oxford University then, later, at the Central School of Speech & Drama. She works both as the Associate Director at the Theatre Royal and is also a freelance director.

Gregor Donnelly will act as the producer for The Snow Queen during its run at the Park Theatre. Other cast members remain unannounced at this time.

The Snow Queen play offers the perfect opportunity for families to get into the holiday spirit. Those with young children should especially avoid missing this production, as it promises loads of festive fun!
