A Tale of Love and Resistance

Given the phenomenal popularity of Atwood’s novel and its subsequent TV adaptation, you might already be aware of the gruelling theme of The Handmaiden’s Tale. If you don’t and are about to encounter the shock at the theatre for the first time, you are in for nothing short of extraordinary. The Handmaid’s Tale Theatre Tickets will take you to the Republic of Gilead, a dystopian land ruled by fascist rulers where women are stripped of every right. They are forced to serve almost as slaves. But the horror is yet to unfurl. The fertile women in the land of autocracy are given to rich families as handmaids. They are forced to reproduce on behalf of the family.

The tale grapples with sensitive issues such as state control, freedom, autonomy, and, most importantly, the place of women in an autocratic society. The opera, conceived from the chilling narrative, is inspired by minimalism, gospel music, and medieval chanting-creating the perfect ambience for the dissonant brutality depicted through the story.

An Assemblage of Legends

The incredible saga of a dystopian world is crafted for the stage by the legendary composer Poul Ruders—all the more reason to flock to the theatre, if you are looking for any. The renowned Danish choreographer has one of the most impressive repertoires as an opera director. He masters various styles, ranging from classics such as Vivaldi pastiche to the more contemporary Manhattan Abstraction. He has an incredible collection of titles to his credit, including Tycho, Kafka’s Trial, Selma Ježková, The Thirteenth Child, Dancers in the Dark, along with several string quartets, symphonies, piano sonatas, and violin concertos. So it is no surprise that The Handmaiden’s Tale, similar to any of his creations, is a masterpiece.

Your Handmaid’s Tale Theatre Tickets will also give you the incredible opportunity to witness a stellar cast of outstanding performers. Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey will play the role of Offred. Susan Buckley will play her mother’s role while soprano Emma Belle will play Aunt Lydia. The power-packed show is directed by Annilese Miskimmon, the artistic director of the English National Opera. It is conducted by one of the greatest contemporary music specialists of our time, Joana Carneiro.
