The Fascinating Tale

English National Opera’s presentation, The Cunning Little Vixen, is originally a Czech opera composed by Leoš Janáček (1921-1923). The libretto of the opera was adapted from Liška Bystrouška, a novella series by Rudolf Těsnohlídek. The opera, widely popular for its rhythms and lyrical compositions, was heavily influenced by Moravian folk music. Besides, it perfectly weaves elements of laughter with an inherent tragic undercurrent, making it a deeply moving tale that will surely strike a chord.

The Cunning Little Vixen tickets will take you to a mystical jungle, where animals can talk and sing. It tells you the story of Sharp Ears—a wily fox cub, a few humans, and a host of other animals. The story revolves around the toils of Sharp Ear’s life, from being caught by a forester at a young age to her final escape. However, throughout her life, she is haunted by the traumatic memory as she trudges on to find her place in the jungle.

Besides entertaining children, the opera involves some deep philosophical undertones to be pondered by a mature audience. It grapples with the eternal relationship of nature with humans, exploring the profound nuances of life and death.
