Why You Should Watch Shackleton and his Stowaway

Based on a true story, Shackleton and his Stowaway follows the doomed Endurance expedition to the frozen wastelands of the Antarctic. Although the expedition itself was not considered to be a success, it served as an unequivocal example of human endurance and courage. An enthusiastic 18-year old stowaway, who is intent on joining his hero Shackleton and his crew, stealthily makes his way onto the Endurance before its departure. As Shackleton leads his loyal crew into a polar ice pack, the stowaway’s admiration for the captain begins to dwindle. The Endurance sinks, leaving the crew stranded on an ice sheet thousands of miles away from the nearest human settlement.

Much of the storytelling is achieved through Andy Dickinson’s brilliantly written dialogue sequences. Enrique Munoz’s amazing projection design has a unique way of displaying animated maps on the wooden acting floor. Richard Ede, known for his role in The 39 Steps, will play the role of Shackleton. The show is directed by accomplished theatre and movement director Simone Coxall, who has worked on several critically acclaimed productions including The Tempest, Vinegar Tom, and Orpheus and Eurydice.
