Why Watch Seeds

“What would you do to save your son? Everything? Anything? Lie?” These are all choices that a mother can face at any time. A mother is the most important person in anyone’s life and it is also the most challenging role in life. It is Micheal Thomas’ birthday and a candlelit cake sits in his mother’s living room. Jackie has one intention, to clear her conscience and let something big off her chest. Evelyn, on the other hand, has a big speech on the 15th anniversary of Micheal’s death. Seeds tells us how two mothers share hardships in protecting their sons, while in life and in death.

Written by the brilliant Mel Pennant, Seeds has been shortlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award and continues to rack up nominations. Directed by Anastasia Osei-Kuffour, the show aims to show the audiences the process of losing and grieving. It asks the tough questions; what happens when a mother loses the very thing she created, a part of her flesh, the thing she holds closest to her heart? Seeds is a story that is written in the most sensitive manner and gives us a small glimpse of how grief is dealt with.
