Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of)

An audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s most iconic love story.

Pride And Prejudice Sort Of Revisits Jane Austen’s 19th Century Classic

Whenever we talk about love stories, there is no way we can forget Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Together, they created the epitome of passionate romance that is still coveted by many of us. Such is the magic of Jane Austen’s powerful writing that even after two centuries, it still pulls to our heartstrings. But beyond the much talked about “boy-meets-girl” cliche, Pride and Prejudice gives us something more, something to explore every time you leaf through the pages of the timeless novel.

This is exactly what Isobel McArthur and her team have done with her new production of Pride and Prejudice sort of. It took Austen’s popular romantic novel and turned into a powerful mouthpiece to voice some age-old issues women have been facing since the time of Elizabeth Bennet, and sadly, that are yet not addressed enough. This is an adaptation like nothing you have seen before. The narrative makes sure that those unheard and overlooked also find the happy endings they deserve. This October, this invigorating fresh take on Pride and Prejudice will hit the stage of Criterion Theatre, London. If you love out-of-the-box concepts and would like to cater to your intellectual cravings, this is the perfect show for you. So go ahead and book your tickets so that you don’t miss the performance.

An Audacious Retelling of a Familiar Story

By now, there will be hardly anyone who has not swooned over the whirlwind romance of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Jane Austen is one of the most famous writers of all time, with copies sold in millions worldwide. But with Pride and Prejudice sort of, you will be taken to a whole new side of the beloved novel that you, in all probability, have paid attention to before.

The iconic love story has been adapted into an all-female performance that is borderline irreverent in its scope. Money, men, and microphones are viciously fought over in this audacious retelling of the famous love story. Instead of the demure dames of 1800s England, it focuses on five young maids serving in the aristocratic households as they strive to earn their happy endings. Together, they retell some of the most popular love stories of all time, emphasising the otherwise lost characters amidst the big names.

Combining fan-favourite pop numbers such as Young Hearts Run Free, Every Day I Write the Book, I Got You Babe, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and You Are So Vain, the five powerhouse performers portraying the female servants play every other character, not to forget the singing and playing the instruments.

A Firecracker Ensemble

The West End edition of Pride and Prejudice sort of will be directed by writer-director Isobel McArthur. She will be joined by Tori Burgess, Christina Gordon, Hannah Jarett-Scott, and Meghan Tyleras to bring this phenomenal performance to life.

The five-star show will open in London’s Criterion Theatre this October. It will be a limited-time run. So, make sure you book your tickets before they sell out.
