The Peking Opera – The Legend of the White Snake

One of China’s best known and popular folklore plays, the Legend of the White Snake tells a story of the love between a monster and a human. This powerful play explores rousing themes, including class status, religion, race and identity, and how everybody has the right to love who they wish.

Lady White, one the leading figures in the play, is a poignant symbol of bravery, rebellion and the pursuit to find true love.

The Peking Opera’s The Legend of the White Snake has both recorded and live music that is sung in Mandarin, with subtitles on screens at the side of the stage that are visible throughout.
