Motown The Musical

The hit Motown the Musical is playing at the Shaftsbury Theatre in the West End from 11 February 2016 to 22 October 2016.

Show Description – Motown the Musical

When the music company Motown was founded in America in 1959 it changed music and culture as we knew it forever, playing a pivotal role in the racial integration of popular music. Motown the Musical traces the real story of the unique sounds produced by Motown and the role it played in transforming American culture.

The pulsating show is centred on Motown’s founder, Berry Gordy’s, rollercoaster journey from being a featherweight boxer to one of music’s leading and most distinguished figures. Gordy helped launch the careers of many of the biggest names in soul/pop music, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and many more.

Motown the Musical relives the compelling story of how the Motown company fought against the odds to create a soundtrack that crushed convention and changed music forever.

Motown the Musical has a book by Berry Gordy and features a catalogue of music from the legendary Motown.

The hit show opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in February 2016. It is directed by American director and playwright, Charles Randolph-Wright.

Motown the Musical is also returning to Broadway in July 2016.
