After the Southbank Sky Arts Award-winning show of 2017 and 18, which acquired 5-star reviews, the 2020 programme brings you the international premiere of THE SPACE BETWEEN. This performance takes its inspiration from the company’s newest creation, Silent Lines. You will witness animated projection, lights and sound. They blend with a one-of-a-kind set of movements that you simply must see. The evening becomes enriched by the revival of 2018’s highlight Duet along with the launch of two specially commissioned films; everything performed by Fouras and Maliphant. Catch Maliphantworks3 London run to fill your mind with awe and see creativity unfold in front of your eyes.

Russell Maliphant and his company

In 1996, The Russell Maliphant Company was founded as the substructure for Maliphant to begin working on productions and to collaborate with his ensemble of dancers. For more than 17 years, he has closely worked with renowned lighting designer Michael Hulls to discover and understand these ideas. He has also been an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells since 2005. The work style of Maliphant features a particular approach towards energy and flow. It is also a continuous study of the relationship between music, light and movement. Through its intimate, unique ambience, The Coronet Theatre showcases the work in a manner unseen in traditional theatres even today; making the Maliphantworks3 London show a must-watch.

As a Sadler’s Wells graduate and a student of the Royal Ballet School, Russell was already an expert performer before turning into a professional choreographer. DV8, Physical Theatre, and Rosemary Butcher are some of the celebrated theatres he has worked with. Several of his well-known works, like this production, were formed in coalition with Michael Hulls, the famous lighting designer. In 2003, Maliphant won an Olivier Award. Later, in 2006, he won the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Best Choreography. He also won a South Bank Show Award.

Your Maliphant experience

This show features new duets and trios danced by Maliphant and his company. The performance starts with dances that are brought to vision with the use of animated projections designed by Panagiotis Tomaras. An array of interesting lighting and set designs by Tomaras and Maliphant also compliment the projections. You will frequently see a brownish golden glow lighting up the muscly stage dancers. During the show, watch and feel strength and vulnerability as the performers skillfully shift between seamless twists and turns and elegantly sinking to the floor. With their limbs following the twists of their torsos, every movement is like a ceaseless spiralling motion.

While the show moves forward, it passionately explores various emotional and social themes. If you are searching for an innovative and unique dance show, catch Maliphantworks3 in London and allow it to take you on the best dance journey of your life.

Reviews

“The Coronet, a gloomy and atmospheric former cinema, seems an appropriate venue in which to celebrate Russell Maliphant, a choreographer for whom the interplay of light and shadow with movement and music is crucial.
