Show Description – Guys and Dolls

Following its original West End run, the Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of the popular musical is extending its London run, showing at the Phoenix Theatre.

The classic Broadway musical originally opened in New York in 1950 where it ran for 1200 performances and won a Tony Award for Best Musical. Featuring incredible music, hilarious characters and a romantic story, Guys and Dolls is widely considered the most perfect musical.

The plot is centred on stories by American author and journalist Damon Runyon. The musical is set in New York where a small time gambler named Nathan Detroit is intent on finding the $1,000 to pay for a venue to host a game of Craps.

Nathan hopes to get the money by winning a bet against fellow gambler Sky Masterson, who is willing to bet on virtually anything. Proposing a bet he thinks he cannot lose, Sky must take the straight-laced Sarah Brown to dinner in Havana.

Guys and Dolls features an unforgettable score of Frank Loesser hits, including ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat’, ‘Take Back Your Mink’ and ‘Luck, Be a Lady Tonight’.
