Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright Suzan-Lori Parks returns to the Royal Court Theatre with Father Comes Home from the Wars. Filled with music, lyricism and wit, this compelling drama comprises of three short plays performed together as Parts 1, 2 and 3.  
This powerful production is set in West Texas in 1862 and follows a slave, known as Hero, to a Confederate battlefield during the Civil War. Hero’s family, whom he has left behind, debate whether to await his return or escape, worried about the cost of freedom. 
Jo Bonney directs Father Comes Home from the Wars, which with has earned acclaim in the States, described as a “thrilling masterpiece” by New York Magazine and “extraordinary” by the New York Times.
