Dirty Dancing

The classic story – Dirty Dancing will be returning to London’s West End at the Piccadilly Theatre this summer, taking over from Viva Forever! Dirty Dancing is an unprecedented live experience, exploding with heart-pounding music, passionate romance and sensationally sexy dancing.

Set in the 1960s, the time of; The Peace Corps, the J F Kennedy Presidency, African American civil rights uprising, the Hippie movement, The Beatles and much more. For those who lived their youth in those times, Dirty Dancing is going to take you on a rollercoaster ride of Nostalgia.

Seen by millions across the globe this worldwide smash-hit tells the classic story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives.

Dirty Dancing is, without a doubt, a name almost all of us are well aware of. It touches on the most delicious subject matter of first love and romance embodied in the sexiest dance routines. The audience will experience with Baby and Johnny how the heart flutters at first site, the first dates, first times of intimacy and youthful self-discovery. As much as we all love a show about romance and raunchy dance moves, Dirty Dancing also touches on personal sacrifice and understanding oneself. The classic story is told on stage, with brand new scenes written especially for the stage performance. Eleanor Bergstein, the author of the original film has done a marvellous job of conveying the same messages from film to theatre.

Dirty Dancing opened at the Aldwych Theatre on 24th October 2006, following previews from 29th September, with a record-breaking advance of £15 million making it the fastest ever selling show in West End Theatre history. The production later became the longest running show in the history of the Aldwych Theatre and played to over 2 million people during its 5 year run which ended on 9th July 2011. Dirty Dancing the show has proved a hit all around the world and has opened in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden and South Africa, consistently breaking box office records. The current national tour has smashed sales records from around the country and a new UK tour will launch in March 2014.

Dirty Dancing was written by Eleanor Bergstein, the scriptwriter and co-producer of the phenomenally successful 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Featuring hit songs, including “Hungry Eyes”, “Hey Baby”, “Do You Love Me?” and the heart stopping “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”.

In the end, Dirty Dancing the musical exudes a nostalgic effect, transporting the audience into their teens and youth when love, passion and romance were all they lived for.
