The world premiere of Barking in Essex launches in the West End in autumn 2013, but it’s advised that with the cast and the especially popular Lee Evans that you should book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

The late Clive Exton, responsible for 10 Rillington Place and for adapting the farcical struggles between Jeeves and Wooster, also wrote Barking in Essex, which has never been performed since its completion in 2005.

Lee Evans, the arena-filling comedian and star of both stage and Hollywood, will star opposite stage and screen veteran Sheila Hancock at the Wyndham’s Theatre in a version directed by Harry Burton. Lee Evans most recently appeared at the Drury Lane theatre in the comedy-musical, The Producers. Sheila Hancock’s last West End outing was starring as the Abbess in Sister Act at the London Palladium. Keeley Hawes also stars and is probaly best known for her numerous T.V. appearances incling in Ashes to Ashes and Line of Duty. Karl Johnson stars as Algie Packer, Karl is best known for his role as series regular Twister in the hugely successful Larkrise To Candleford.

Algie Packer, a gangster who terrorises Essex, has just finished a seven-year prison stint. As the money in his stash has accumulated in his absence, there’s a lot of dosh for him to pick up, a whopping sum that totals over £3.6m. His dysfunctional family prepare to welcome him home but neglect to reveal an important point of interest, and must hide their intentions while Algie prepares to collect his fortune.

Algie’s mother Emmie, played by Sheila Hancock, is the matriarch in the vein of Barbara Windsor’s Peggy Mitchell, with a fearsome bite to match her means-business hairdo. Lee Evans plays Darnley Packer, a slow-witted criminal, the comic foil. Lee Evans’ manic energy, uncanny observations, hilarious delivery and side-splitting material have made his live performances a must-see for comedy fans worldwide. His tours and DVD releases year-on-year continue to smash sales and box office records.
