Why You Should Watch Alina Cojocaru

In this fabulous production, Romanian ballet icon Alina Cojocaru presents a range of enthralling pieces from various eras of dance. Sir Frederick Ashton’s enthralling Marguerite and Armand is undoubtedly the highlight of the performance. It follows the tale of a Parisian courtesan named Marguerite Gautier who recounts her tragic past as she lies on her deathbed. In her first flashback, she remembers the day she met and fell in love with the dashing Armand. Marguerite chooses to leave her wealthy suitor and live with Armand in a small country house. Things take a turn for the worse when Armand’s father secretly visits Marguerite and asks her to stay away from his son.

After leaving the Royal Ballet, Alina Cojocaru became a principal dancer for the English National Ballet in 2013. She became the first ballerina in history to receive the prestigious Prix Benois de la Danse twice. She is best known for her legendary partnership with Danish principal dancer Johan Kobborg since 2001. In fact, this show features Johan Kobborg alongside Cojocaru. He is also an accomplished choreographer, dancer, and visual artist who was nominated for an Olivier Award for La Sylphide.
