The emotional tale The Kite Runner is showing at the West End

The stage adaptation of The Kite Runner is based on Afghan novelist’s Khaled Hosseini’s powerful novel of the same name. The book was published in 2003 and became an international best-seller.

The poignant story is narrated by Amir, a boy who grew up in Afghanistan in the 1970s. Childhood friends Amir and Hassan are taking part in a kite flying competition on a beautiful afternoon in Kabul. Neither of the boys are prepared for the events that take place that afternoon, which tear them apart and change Amir’s life forever.

This emotional story focuses on the theme of friendship within a deeply divided Afghanistan on the verge of war. The story follows one man’s journey to take on his past, make up for his mistakes and ultimately find redemption.

This stage adaptation of Hosseini’s best-selling novel, is visually stunning and emotionally captivating, remaining on the minds of those in the auditorium long after the final curtain falls.

The Kite Runner is a fast-paced play, which was first adapted for the stage in 2009 in San Jose, California by Matthew Spangler.

In the UK, the Nottingham Playhouse’s production of The Kite Runner, directed by Giles Croft, was shortlisted for the Best Regional Production in the WhatsOnStage Awards in 2014. The production earned a series of great reviews, described as ‘mesmerising’ by the Daily Mail, ‘exhilarating’ by The Times, ‘gripping’ by The Guardian and ‘utterly absorbing from start to finish’ by the Mail On Sunday.

From 21st December 2016 audiences can enjoy this absorbing and moving play at the Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End.
