Following a highly successful run on Broadway, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock is coming to West End, opening at the New London Theatre this autumn
School of Rock the Musical is coming to the West End
The musical is based on the highly successful 2003 film, which starred Jack Black. The story is centred on the mishaps and endeavours of wannabe rock star Dewey Finn.
Desperate for money to pay for his rent, Finn poses as a supply teacher at a school. Daydreaming of being on stage as a rock star, Dewey Finn finds himself surrounded by class full of ultra-talented musicians – henceforth the School of Rock is born!
A competition between local bands sees Dewey Finn and his team of talented musicians be in with a chance of being propelled to rock stardom – but will they win the Battle of the Bands?
This musical revival of the hit film, features revamped songs from the original, played alongside a string of new rock-inspired songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater.
School of Rock the musical has a book by Julian Fellowes, writer of the hugely popular TV series Downton Abbey.
On Broadway, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock has been lapped up by audiences and critics alike, described the Time Out New York as:
“A double jolt of adrenaline and sugar to inspire the most helicoptered of tots to play hooky and go shred an ax. For those about to love School of Rock: We salute you.”
School of Rock the musical is showing at the New London Theatre from 24 October 2016 until 12 February 2017. This family-friendly show can be enjoyed by all ages.
