Hold onto your seats: Aladdin’s carpet is flying into the West End in June!

Disney has announced it will hold its West End premiere of hit musical Aladdin on Thursday 9 June 2016 at the Prince Edward Theatre

The Tony Award-winning musical features the classic songs from the 1992 animated film, accompanied by new music by Alan Menken, the multiple Oscar-winning composer of numerous Disney animated movies.

Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Casey Nicholaw, Aladdin has a book by Chad Beguelin and lyrics from three-time Tony and Olivier Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice, Olivier Award and two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman as well as Chad Beguelin.

It has also been confirmed that Trevor Dion Nicholas, a cast member with Aladdin on Broadway, will make his West End debut as the Genie.

Aladdin’s ‘perfect home’

Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer at Disney Theatrical Productions, spoke of the excitement that Aladdin is coming to the West End.

“In 1992, Howard Ashman, Alan Menken and Tim Rice’s reimagining of the Aladdin tale became the biggest movie of the year around the globe. Now 23 years later, Casey Nicholaw’s production lifts a whole new audience and sends them home on air,” said Schumacher.

The Disney Theatrical Productions’ Director added that they are thrilled the show has “found its ideal home in Cameron Mackintosh’s stunning Prince Edward Theatre.”

Aladdin is now in its second year on Broadway, where it has broken records, having been seen by more than one million people. The show will have its European premiere in Hamburg in December 2015.

Tickets will go on sale for the Tony Award-winning musical Aladdin on Monday 23 November 2015.
