Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical is coming to the West End in 2016
Due to more relaxed laws on child performers in the United States, School of Rock will premiere in New York this November before making its way to the West End next autumn.
The musical is based on the American 2003 film of the same name, which was written by Mike White, directed by Richard Linklater, and starred Jack Black.
The story is based on the trials and tribulations of Dewey Finn, a struggling guitarist and rock singer whose fellow band members kick him out of his group No Vacancy. In the wake of being forced out of the band, a destitute Finn disguises himself as a supply teacher in a prestigious prep school. From the school Finn forms a band with several of his talented students and endeavours to win the forthcoming Battle of the Bands.
School of Rock the musical features an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It has lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes and sound design by Mick Potter.
As well as featuring 12 original songs, School of Rock will also feature music from the 2003 film.
