They were an all girl band featuring Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chilsolm (Sporty Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice). They are the 72nd best selling recording artists worldwide, selling over 75 million records worldwide, making them the 16th best selling British Pop act of all-time. The Spice Girls have out-sold some legendary pop recording artists including Robbie Williams, Bob Dylan, Meat Loaf and Duran Duran. They played a series of comeback concerts in 2008 and featured at the London Olympics closing ceremony earlier this year.
Viva Forever! is a brand new feel-good musical about the value of friendship in the face of fame and fortune, as one girl follows her dreams. Viva Forever follows her story through a reality T.V. show as she is launched into the world of overnight celebrity and its impact on her mother, and the friends she thought she’d have forever. From London to Spain and back again, as the world judges you, it’s all about who you really are and who you want to be, whatever the cost.
Leading the cast is renown West End actress Sally Ann Triplett and West End newcomer Hannah John-Kamen, who play Lauren and Viva, the mother and daughter roles central to the tale of love, loyalty and romance at the heart of the musical. Viva Forever! is an original story of our times, inspired by the songs of the Spice Girls and promises both laughter and tears along the way.
Viva Forever is a romantic comedy that shows a family in turmoil facing moral dilemmas as Viva (played by Hannah) and her three best friends get swept up in a TV talent show.
Viva and her mother, Lauren (played by Sally Ann Triplett) and their closest friends see their lives and values put to the test by the relentless process of the talent show during which Viva is forced to choose between loyalty to her friends and the lure of fame. Lauren feels torn and fears that her relationship with her daughter is under threat. Is fame worth it?
Other stars of the show include Bill Ward, Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street, and previously in theatre as Scar in The Lion King, Sally Dexter whose previous theatre credits include The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Billy Elliot. And Tamara Wall, Martine in BBC’s Eastenders and Brooke in Legally Blonde.
On the casting, Judy Craymer said:
“We’re very excited to be working with such a fabulous group of actors – not only does the cast include some of the most accomplished performers in British musical theatre, but we’ve discovered some wonderful newcomers as well. The story is not about the Spice Girls but rather a contemporary comedy musical with a funny and clever script by Jennifer, which is charged with all the energy and attitude of the girls themselves.”
