Broadway sensation, Hamilton the musical, is set to light up London’s West End
Broadways current hot ticket ‘Hamilton the musical’ is heading for London’s West End and is due to open at the Victoria Palace theatre in London later this year.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh is expected to bring the musical about Alexander Hamilton, to his most recent theatre sometime in the Autumn of 2016.
The show was inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow. with music, lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Hamilton the musical made its Off-Broadway debut in February 2015 at the Public theater, where it was a complete sell out. Following on from rave reviews and sell out performances the show transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in August 2015.
Hamilton has received amazing critical acclaim and unprecedented advance box office ticket sales, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The original production of the show won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical and seven other Drama Desk Awards out of 14 total nominations.
Billed as Hamilton The American Musical, Hamilton is an unlikely sounding hip-hop musical, by Lin-Manuel Miranda, about one of the lesser-known founding fathers of America.
Hamilton the musical tells the epic tale of Alexander Hamilton a Scottish/French, Caribbean-born immigrant who travelled from the island of St Croix to New York in the late 18th-century, and became the right-hand man to George Washington.
Alexander Hamilton an orphan from the Caribbean, whose town is destroyed by a hurricane when he was 17, earns himself a passage on a ship to the American colonies. A prodigiously talented orator, in 1776 Hamilton arrives in New York where he joins up with three revolutionaries. Hamilton later joins the revolutionary army, however, he receives an offer from General George Washington and accepts a position as his right-hand man.
Hamilton becomes a hero of the American War for Independence, his epic tale continues through the struggles and he meets and marries the love of his life. Hamilton is a fierce advocate for the new Constitution but he was also a very abrasive character who was involved in a notorious sex scandal and died before he reached 50 in a duel with the former Vice-President of America Aaron Burr.
If the success of the musical on Broadway is anything to go by, then the show in London is bound to be a huge success. Tickets for Hamilton the musical will be on sale here.
